For yet another season both Kentucky’s men’s and women’s cross country teams earned All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Kentucky’s men’s team had a cumulative 3.21 grade-point average and the women’s team had a 3.38.
The UK men’s and women’s teams have both earned All-Academic honors from USTFCCCA in all of head coach Edrick Floréal’s four years at the program’s helm.
To be eligible for the All-Academic honors teams need a cumulative GPA better than 3.0 and to start at least five runners at the NCAA East Regional Championships.
Jacob Thomson and Katy Kunc also earned individual All-Academic honors.
To be eligible for the award, Thomson and Kunc needed a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale in addition to being an All-American finisher or top 25 finisher (or top 10%) at an NCAA Regional meet.
Thomson, a sophomore transfer, was the first Wildcat to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Cally Macumber in 2013. Luis Orta was the last UK men’s team member to qualify for NCAAs, in 2012, which was the last time the NCAA Championships were held in Louisville. Orta finished 114th in 30:52.30.
He was a top-10 finisher at Southeast Regionals.
Kunc was an All-Southeast Region finisher.
Macumber earned individual All-Academic honors in 2013.
