Kentucky softball junior pitcher Meagan Prince earned the Southeastern Conference’s Pitcher of the Week award, it was announced by the league office on Monday. The honor is the first-career award for Prince from the league office in her three years as a Wildcat.

The weekly award is the third already garnered by UK this season, with Katie Reed earning SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 22 and Abbey Cheek collecting SEC Freshman of the Week honors last Monday for her sensational performance at the Winthrop Invitational. Kentucky has won a Player of the Week award in three of the five weeks of the season so far.
Prince picked up another two wins and her first save of the season this week, collecting wins over Indiana on Wednesday night and South Carolina on Saturday afternoon to lock up the series. Against the Gamecocks on Sunday, she came on with two on and no outs to pick up the save by retiring all the batters she faces to preserve the shutout. Against Indiana, Prince had a perfect game through 6.1 innings before an infield single gave the Hoosiers their first baserunner of the game.
Prince now leads the UK pitching staff with 64.1 innings pitched on the season and only nine walks to 62 strikeouts. The junior pitcher also leads the UK staff with five complete games and three shutouts so far in 2016. She also has two no-hitters in non-conference action.
The Wildcats sweep of South Carolina marked the first sweep of an SEC team since April 11-13 when UK swept Ole Miss. UK sits at 22-3 overall and 3-0 in the SEC, perched atop the league standings with Tennessee as the only two teams to sweep the opening weekend series.
Kentucky returns to the road on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET in Huntington, W. Va., as the Wildcats are at Marshall.
