The Thomas More College men’s soccer team played No. 15-ranked Kenyon College to a 1-1 draw tonight (Saturday, September 16, 2017) in a non-conference game at Mavec Field in Gambier, Ohio.
With the tie, the Saints are now 3-2-1 and the Lords are 4-1-2.
Kenyon took an early 1-0 lead when it found the back of the net at the 22:29 mark. The Saints scored the equalizer at the 87:39 mark when first-year midfielder Bryce Day (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) scored off a cross from first-year defender Adam Mathews (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson). The match ended in a draw after neither team scored in the 20 minutes of overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Mathews (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) had the decision in goal as he played the final 65 minutes in goal and didn’t allow a goal, while recording seven saves. Junior goalkeeper Jeff Paulin (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) played the first 45 minutes and recorded three saves, while allowing a goal.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (September 20) when it travels to Lexington, Kentucky to play in-state rival Transylvania University at 7 p.m.
