EKU Women’s Tennis With Strong Showing At Greater Cincinnati Invite

The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team opened the fall season with strong showing at the Greater Cincinnati Fall Invitational last weekend.

The squad posted an 11-8 record in singles play and went 7-3 in doubles.

Alexandra Belle, Kristina Lagoda and Sagung Putri Dwinta led the charge in for the women’s portion of the singles competition, each going 2-1 on the weekend.

Belle started off the event squaring off against St. Francis’ Laura Gutierrez and notching the win (6-2, 6-4). In the round of eight the newcomer fell to Duquesne’s Kylie Isaacs (6-4, 6-2). She faced another Duke in the consolation round, taking her down, 8-6.

Lagoda received a first round bye in her flight. She then took down Evansville’s Daria Pentsova by scores of 7-5, 6-4 and (10-7) before making quick work of Dayton’s Mattea Kilstofte (6-2, 6-3).

Dwinta also received a free pass in round one, but topped Duquesne’s Ally Miller in round two (6-2, 0-6, [10-4]). In the semi-final round she faced Evansville’s Adrea Pascual-Larrinaga, winning by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.

The duo of Belle and Margaux Lacroix went undefeated in doubles action, 2-0, after finishing off a Flyer pair, 6-3, and an Evansville duo, 7-6.

“Looking at the results doubles will be a strong suit for the women this year,” Head Coach Rob Oertel explained. “I really like our potential and our depth will be another strength.”

Two other pairings also came back to EKU with winning records: Lagoda/Viktorija Demcenkova and Dwinta/Raquel Montalvo, both finishing at 2-1.
