EKU’S Moberly Continues To Break Records, Finishes Second At Prestigious Golfweek Conference Challenge

Eastern Kentucky University junior Elsa Moberly broke her own school record with a 7-under round of 65 and finished tied for second overall at the prestigious Golfweek Conference Challenge on Wednesday.

As a team, EKU tied for 15th overall. Twelve of the 18 teams in this year’s field advanced to NCAA regional play last spring.

Just last week, Moberly tied her own school record with a 67 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Challenge hosted by Tennessee. On Wednesday she shaved two shots off that mark for her new school record.

The Somerset, Kentucky native and former Miss Kentucky Golf opened play on Monday with an even-par 72 and shot a second round 75 on Tuesday. Her three-round total of 212 tied Emma Svensson of Central Arkansas and was three shots behind first place Haley Moore of Arizona.

Eastern shot rounds of 307, 301 and 291 for a total of 899. The Colonels tied with California-Riverside (899) and finished just five shots behind Texas Christian University. EKU out-distanced 17th place College of Charleston (928) by 29 shots and beat Akron (935) by 36 strokes.

Host Denver (872) edged Pepperdine (874) by two shots for the team title. The field also included Arizona (4th), Southern Methodist (T-5th), Louisville (T-5th), San Diego State (T-5th) and Michigan (10th).

The 54-hole event was contested on the par-72, 6,216-yard Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club.

Junior Amanda Lindahl turned in a strong performance with consistent rounds of 73, 72 and 73 for a total of 218. She tied for 15th overall.
