The Thomas More College women’s soccer team defeated Washington & Jefferson College, 2-1, today (Tuesday, October 3, 2017) in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 7-3-1 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 2-0. With the loss, the Presidents fall to 5-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 21:26 mark when sophomore forward Olivia Nienaber (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) scored off an assist by first-year forward Ashley Maples (Springboro, Ohio/Archbishop Alter).
W&J tied the match with a goal in the 58th minute. Nienaber scored the game-winning goal unassisted at the 63:24 mark of the match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Kim (California, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) earned the win as she played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves.
Thomas More out-shot Washington & Jefferson, 9-8, while the shot on-goals were even at 6-6. The Saints won the battle of corner kicks, 6-4.
The Saints return to the pitch on Saturday (October 7) when they host Waynesburg University at 1 p.m. at BB&T Field.
