Kentucky State University volleyball swept its way to two victories in the Tri-Match at Salem International University on Saturday afternoon.
The Thorobrettes (15-8) took wins over SIU (4-18), and Bluefield State College (0-9) as each set of the six matches were decided by five or more points.
KSU will travel to West Virginia State University on Tuesday night for a 7:00 pm ET affair.
Freshman outside hitter Makayla Martin stole the show in the first match of the day, recording a team-high 13 kills and a .500 attack percentage for the Thorobrettes.
KSU only trailed at one point in the match, and it came in the second set with the Thorobrettes trailing 2-0. Before and after the point of emphasis, KSU was in complete control.
Sophomore setter Hannah Smyers turned in another 30 plus assists performance with a total of 35, her fifth of the season. She picked up seven kills on eight attacks, for an attack percentage of .875.
Freshman libero Gabriella Garcia added another double-digit game with 13 digs, notching her 10th of the year, and third straight match of 10 or more.
Back on Sept. 8, KSU took down BSU 3-1 in the opening match of the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament. With almost a month in between the Thorobrettes improved their attack versus the Big Blues, taking each set by nine or more points.
KSU only allowed 19 total points defensively, while slamming 54 against the opposition’s defense, including 12 aces.
Freshman outside hitter Robin Poole picked up her 13th match of the season with double-digit kills at 14. Freshman middle blocker Jaylnn Roberts followed with nine of her own.
Smyers continued her run of matches with 30 or more assists with 33, to four consecutive matches.
