Hannabeth Owens picked up her first collegiate victory and the Eastern Kentucky University
women’s golf team finished third at the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship presented by Craniofacial Pain & Dental Sleep Center of Georgia.
Owens, a sophomore from Crab Orchard, Kentucky, shot rounds of 71, 72 and 79 to finish tied for first with a 54-hole total of 222 (+6).
As a team, EKU rebounded from a rough first round 318 on Monday morning to post a second round 305 on Monday afternoon. That score tied for the second-best of the round. The Colonels did even better on Tuesday, shooting a 300, the best round of the day by any team.
Eastern’s three round total of 923 was two shots better than fourth place Rutgers and seven shots behind second place Western Kentucky. Host Mercer captured the team title by nine shots.
The 11 teams competed at the par-72, 6,166-yard Idle Hour Golf & Country Club.
EKU also finished in front of Troy (5th), North Florida (6th), James Madison (7th) and Cincinnati (8th).
Elsa Moberly posted a top-10 finish. After opening with a round of 82, she fired consecutive rounds of 1-under 71 to finish tied for sixth with a total of 224 (+8).
Mikayla Hauck (238) tied for 34th and Amanda Lindahl (239) tied for 40th overall.
EKU has concluded the fall portion of its 2017-18 season. The Colonels will return to action on Feb. 19 at the Amelia Island Collegiate hosted by Jacksonville University at the Amelia National Golf Club in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
