The University of Louisville’s Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff was named ACC Co-Tennis Player of the Week along with Wake Forest’s Petros Chrysochos.
Morin-Kougoucheff helped the Cardinals to a 3-0 record on the weekend, snapping a three-match losing streak. The junior from Capbreton, France was a perfect 5-0 in both single and doubles. In singles, he went 3-0 at No.1 including a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 upset of Charlotte’s Luca Keist who is ranked No. 63. Morin-Kougoucheff improved his singles tally to 9-6 and stands at 3-1 as the Cardinals No. 1 player.
He was also a perfect 3-0 in doubles at the No. 1 spot, pairing with junior Federico Gomez for a 6-3 win over Wright State’s Pun and Ueltzhoeffer. Morin-Kougoucheff also teamed with Parker Wynn as the No 18 team in the ITA doubles rankings to beat Charlotte and Georgia State at the No. 1 spot. He now carries a 20-9 overall double record and a team-best 7-3 mark in dual matches.
“I am proud of our team captain” said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. “He has added a ‘plan B; to his game which he definitely needed this weekend. His doubles understanding has really improved as well. I am thankful to the ACC for choosing him.”
The Cardinals (7-3) return to action on Feb. 18 when they travel to Evanston, Ill., to face Northwestern at 1 p.m. (ET).
