Two Murray State golfers, one current and one former, went to a playoff Sunday to decide the West Kentucky Open at Drake Creek Golf Club in Ledbetter, Kentucky.

Current Racer and senior, Gabe Wheeler, out of Sikeston, Missouri, defeated former MSU player Josh Rhodes in what was thrilling duel in the final round. Wheeler had a one-shot lead heading to the 18th hole when Rhodes made birdie to force a playoff. Wheeler had carded scores of 69-70=139 and Rhodes had rounds of 65-74=139. Wheeler won the title when he made a 30-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole.

Wheeler and his teammates return to campus next week and face a competitive fall schedule that has them playing the season opener at their own Murray State Invitational (Sept. 10-11) at Miller Memorial Golf Course.
