After helping the Eastern Kentucky University football team to a season-opening 49-23 win, Samuel Hayworth was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Specialist of the Week, the league announced on Sunday from its Brentwood, Tennessee headquarters.
The Colonels (1-0) opened the season with a home field victory over Morehead State. EKU will play at Marshall on Saturday. Eastern’s next home game is Sept. 22 against Southeast Missouri. For ticket information, contact the EKU Athletics Ticket Office at 844-3-GOBIGE.
Hayworth, a 5-foot-11 redshirt junior, handled nearly all the kicking duties for the Colonels on Thursday. He made both of his field goal attempts, from 38 and 27 yards. His first got EKU on the board in the first quarter. The Ormond Beach, Florida native was 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts. He also kicked off nine times, two of which were touchbacks.
The Eastern Kentucky University football program features the “Best Tradition In FCS Football”, having won two national championships, 21 conference titles and made 21 playoff appearances. No other FCS team has won at least two FCS national titles and 20 or more conference championships. EKU has had 66 All-America selections and 33 NFL draft picks.
