Brady Kennedy, who has been a part of the Kentucky men’s basketball program since 2012, has been hired as the recruiting analyst for the Wildcats.
In the newly formed role, Kennedy will assist with the day-to-day recruiting operations of the program, including but not limited to facilitating communication and correspondence efforts for prospective student-athletes, managing the schedule of prospects during on- and off-campus visits, assisting with travel arrangements of the coaching staff for recruiting, and developing marketing ideas to connect with potential future Wildcats.
“Recruiting will always serve as the lifeblood of our program,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said. “I think our success in getting and developing kids over our time here speaks for itself, but as our game continues to change, we wanted to have someone who would oversee what we’re doing from an organizational standpoint. Ultimately we get who we are supposed to get and they come here because of the success we’ve had with our players on and off the court, but we are always looking for ways to improve the consistency of our message and managing how we are delivering it to potential future players.
“Brady has been with us for a while now in various roles and has always stood out for his hard work and versatility. When he came to me with some ideas of some ways we can do things more efficiently, I was all for it. I’m looking forward to seeing how he can grow this role to take our recruiting efforts to the next level.”
Kennedy’s primary duties will involve the communication and organization of connecting with prospective student-athletes. In addition to managing official and unofficial visits and supervising the staff that will be making the travel arrangements for recruits, Kennedy will help connect Kentucky basketball with potential future Wildcats via social media and mass mailings. He’ll also be in charge of creating and updating recruiting lists at the direction of the coaching staff, assisting with idea generations and forecasting program needs, developing, organizing, and preparing evaluation recruiting materials, and developing marketing ideas to generate content targeted for prospective student-athletes.
Kennedy joined the UK men’s basketball program in 2012 as a student manager. During his time as a manager, until 2016, he worked alongside 13 future NBA players. He served in a number of roles, including assisting the coaches in running practices, conducting individual workouts with players before and after practices and games, and charting offensive and defensive statistics during practice.
In 2016, Kennedy joined the staff full time as a men’s basketball video graduate assistant while he earned a master’s degree from UK in kinesiology and health promotions with an emphasis on sports leadership. He filmed practices and games, created edits for the team, organized and prepared scouting reports for the team to watch, and worked closely with the coaching staff to brainstorm and implement analytics.
Kennedy also served as a basketball operations intern with the Charlotte Hornets during the summer of 2015.
