The University of Louisville’s Ayeisha McFerran was named Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19. This marks McFerran’s national player of the week honor.

McFerran (Larne, Northern Ireland) collected six saves as Louisville posted back-to-back shutout wins against a pair of ranked opponents over the weekend. The senior goalkeeper had five saves Friday, helping the Cardinals to their first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) win of the season as they defeated No. 9 Boston College 1-0. She also had a crucial save to ensure Louisville’s 1-0 win on Sunday against No. 11 Northwestern University.

The three-time NFHCA All-American and All-ACC selection stands second on Louisville’s list for career shutouts with 18 and stands third on the all-time list for wins with 41.

The seventh-ranked Cardinals (6-2) will return to action next weekend when they open a four-game road stretch with an ACC matchup at Wake Forest on Friday followed by a visit to Appalachian State on Sunday.
