The Murray state women’s golf team enters Tuesday’s final round with a chance to win the Fred Marx Invitational in back-to-back seasons.
Playing at the at Bayou Desiard Country Club in Monroe, Louisiana, the Racers put together team scores of 296-294 for a 36-hole total of 590, which was good for a six-shot lead over second place South Alabama who has scores of 291-306=597.
Murray State freshman Sarah McDowell is the medalist leader after a pair of even-par scores of 72 and a total of 144. McDowell goes for her first Racer medalist win when she starts Tuesday’s final round with a one-shot lead on teammate Linette Holmslykke who carded scores of 74-71=145. MSU’s Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria was in 14th place on scores of 75-75=150 and Raeshya Surendran had scores of 75-78=153 for a spot in 22nd place. Jane Watts was in 24th place on scores of 79-76=155. MSU’s Anna Moore is playing the event as an individual and was in 32nd place on scores of 77-82=159.
The rest of the top-7 teams included Lamar (606), Tennessee Tech (609), host Louisiana-Monroe (610) and Austin Peay and Lipscomb each at 613. North Alabama (633) and Prairie View A&M (677) made up the rest of the field.
