Murray State freshman Sarah McDowell was named the Ohio Valley Conference Female Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office in Brentwood, Tennessee.
McDowell, a local product from Murray, Kentucky, claimed her first collegiate medalist crown, taking first place at the ULM Fred Marx Invitational held at the Bayou Desiard Country Club in Monroe, Louisiana.
She carded rounds of 72-72 to finish at 144 (even par) in an event that was shortened to 36 holes due to rain on Tuesday. McDowell topped the field of 51 by a shot, besting her teammate Linette Holmslykke (who had already earned a pair of OVC Golfer of the Week honors earlier this season). McDowell’s performance helped Murray State to a six-shot team victory, its second-straight win this fall; in four events so far this year the Racers have finished no worse than third place.
Through 11 rounds, McDowell has a season scoring average of 75.2 (seventh in the OVC).
The Racers play their final event of the fall portion of the 2018-19 season (Oct. 20-21) when they tee it up at the Cardinal Cup at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
