The Louisville women’s soccer team received an at-large bid into the 2018 NCAA Championship and will travel to No. 12 Tennessee in a first round game on Friday at 5 p.m., ET at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Louisville, finished tied for fifth in the ACC with a record of 6-4, will be making their fifth NCAA Championship appearance.

The Cardinals enter the NCAA Championship with a 12-6 overall record. Directing the way for the Cardinals is head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes, who has guided the Cards to all five of the NCAA bids. Louisville is led offensively by junior Brooklynn Rivers, freshman Maisie Whitsett and sophomore Emina Ekic. Ekic was named first team All-ACC after finishing the regular season with six goals and five assists.  Rivers earned third team All-ACC honors and leads the team with eight goals and six assists for 22 points.  Whitsett had an impressive rookie year with nine goals and two assists for 20 points.

Defensively, Louisville is anchored by senior centerback Gabrielle Vincent and redshirt sophomore keeper Gabby Kouzelos. They have helped guide the Cardinals to seven shutouts this season.  Kouzelos owns a 1.01 goals against average and has collected 32 saves on the year.

The Vols have earned a national seed for the first time since 2007, claiming the No. 2 seed in the Palo Alto Quadrant.  Tennessee enters the weekend with a 13-2-3 record overall and has been ranked in the top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches poll every week this season and currently sits No. 9 in the RPI.

Friday’s matchup will be the second meeting between the two teams. Tennessee won the first meeting 6-0 in Nashville on Oct. 30, 1998.
