Eastern Kentucky University’s baseball team led 1-0 and 2-1, but a three-run fourth inning sent Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to a 5-2 victory in the finale of the Ohio Valley Conference series on Sunday.

Ryland Kerr’s double to right center in the first inning scored Will Johnson and gave EKU (16-13, 5-4 OVC) a 1-0 advantage.  The Colonels went up 2-1 on a run-scoring single from Charles Ludwick in the top of the third inning.

Jordon Ross’s 2-run single to center field keyed the three-run fourth for the Cougars (9-16, 5-7 OVC).  He finished 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.  Eric Giltz had a 3-for-4 day with a run and an RBI.

Brennan LaBarbera and Aaron Ochsenbein combined for four and one-third innings of scoreless relief, but the Eastern Kentucky offense couldn’t close the gap.  The duo did not allow a hit and struck out five batters.

Kerr finished 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

EKU will host Xavier on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
