Eastern Kentucky University right-hander and Lexington, Kentucky native Aaron Ochsenbein was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday from its Brentwood, Tennessee headquarters.
In two appearances last week, Ochsenbein earned a save and a win while pitching six and one-third innings without allowing a run or a hit. He struck out 11 batters and walked only two.
The 6-foot-3 redshirt junior earned the win in the series clincher against Austin Peay. He came on in relief with two on, two outs and EKU nursing a three-run lead in the top of the fifth. With one pitch, he got a fly ball to end the threat. He then tossed the next four innings without allowing a hit and striking out six batters. APSU came into the game fourth in the OVC in runs.
Ochsenbein also picked up a two-inning save in a 5-3 Eastern Kentucky victory over Xavier, striking out five and not allowing a base runner.
For the season, Ochsenbein has allowed just one run on six hits while striking out 48 in 28 and one-third innings. He’s 2-0 with a 0.32 ERA and five saves. Opponents have a .067 batting average against him.
