Starks Named SIAC Utlity Player of the Year and Two Other Tabbed with Honors

Three student-athletes from Kentucky State University (18-32, 12-9) baseball were selected by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for yearly honors on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Cameron Starks was award the SIAC Utility Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Conference first team at the utility position. Senior third baseman Brandon Story and junior shortstop Justin Stinson were selected to the All-Conference second team.

Starks a resident of Alpharetta, Georgia split time during the 2017 season in left field and at first base. Starks hit an eye-opening .418 in 19 games against SIAC opponents, collecting 28 hits, eight extra bases hits, and drove in 13 RBIs.

Story was a mainstay in the Thorobreds lineup as he started all 21 games against conference opponents, batting in the No. 3 spot in the lineup, driving in a team-high 25 RBIs. Story also led the team in hits at 32, accounting for a season average of .364.

Stinson played a clean shortstop possession, registering the highest fielding percentage of any shortstop in the conference at .939, committing only four errors on the year. His bat ignited against conference opponents as he notched an average of .409 over 18 games.

KSU will look to add to its winningest season in 29 years with the first round of the SIAC tournament on Wednesday. The Thorobreds will take on Paine College at 3 pm in Augusta, Georgia.
