The Kentucky dance team had a strong showing at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) game day competition, finishing in fifth place out of the teams competing at the national level. Despite entering Friday’s finals in third place, the team was unable to move up in the standings.

The Wildcat dancers had a particularly successful year in the hip hop category, placing second in the nation in 2021. However, they missed the finals in the event the previous season.

Despite not securing a higher spot in the game day competition, UK head coach Dawn Walters expressed pride in her team’s performance. “This group has worked extremely hard and I’m proud of how we finished in game day,” said Walters.

With the game day competition now behind them, the Kentucky dancers are looking ahead to the next portion of the championships: the hip hop competition. They will compete on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET, with the finals for the event taking place on Sunday. Coach Walters is optimistic about her team’s chances in the hip hop competition, saying, “Now, it’s time to turn our attention to the hip hop competition.”
