The Miami Native is Ready to Bring the Heat to the NFL
Yo, football fans! We’ve got some fantastic news from the NFL Draft. University of Louisville’s standout linebacker Yasir Abdullah is making moves and heading to the big leagues! The Jacksonville Jaguars scooped him up with the No. 136 pick in the fifth round, and we’re stoked to see this young talent continue to rise.
Yasir isn’t just any linebacker – he’s the first from UofL to be drafted since Lorenzo Mauldin in 2015. That’s right, this Miami native is putting Louisville back on the map when it comes to NFL talent. With two Cards drafted this year, we’re feeling that Louisville pride, and we know y’all are too.
Now, let’s talk about what makes Yasir so special. This man was a force to be reckoned with on the field, earning first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and coming close to being named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. He led the ACC in sacks with 9.0 and was fourth in tackles for loss with 14.5. Nationally, he ranked 15th in sacks and 23rd in tackles for loss – and that’s just the beginning.
In his junior year, Yasir racked up 10.0 sacks, the most by a UofL player since 2015, and 17.5 tackles for loss. Throughout his college career, he played in a school-record 61 games, accumulating 208 tackles, 43.0 tackles for loss, 23.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and three interceptions.
With stats like that, it’s no wonder the Jaguars couldn’t resist drafting Yasir. We’re hyped to see what he brings to the NFL, and we know he’s going to make a significant impact on the field.
