Kentucky State University football will travel to McKendree University for its first road game of the season at Leemon Field; kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm ET.

The Thorobreds (0-1) are coming off a 42-21 loss to Slippery Rock University, while the Bearcats (0-1) are following a similar result with a 42-2 defeat on the road at Angelo State University.

The KSU offense showed promise in the loss to SLR as junior quarterback Paul Campbell led the way for the newly tooled offense. Campbell went 22-for-33 through the air for 166 yards and a touchdown. Joining Campbell and his air campaign is junior Demetrius Anderson, the top returning receiver for KSU from 2016. Anderson caught 10 passes from Campbell for 74 yards in his season debut, along with a touchdown.

One important factor for KSU will be field position, and it could rely on the production of sophomore running back Brett Sylve. After week one, Sylve ranks as the top return man in the SIAC, after he accounted for 221 return yards, including a 93-yard return for a touchdown.

Defensively, KSU will welcome back senior Rodriquez Jones and sophomore Myrthel Stewart to the starting lineup, after both missed the opening contest against SLR. During Jones’s junior season, he finished third on the team in total tackles with 75 and led the team in tackles for a loss at 11.5 as well sacks with 4.5. Stewart performed well as a freshman, notching 52 total tackles and 4.5 tackles for a loss while playing mostly in coverage sets.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast live with a video stream on the Bearcat Sports Network and with a stat broadcast.
