Kentucky State University football sophomore running Brett Sylve has been awarded the Newcomer of the Week by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Sylve was the offensive focal point for the Thorobreds in their 30-23 win over in-state opponent Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday. He accounted for 100 yards rushing on 21 attempts, but his largest contribution came on special teams.
Following a KWC touchdown, Sylve ran back the 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, sparking his second special teams score of over 90 yards in 2017. The Hammond, Louisianna native accounted for over 150 all-purpose yards for third straight week, ending the day with 247 all-purpose yards in the win.
Sylve and the Thorobreds will compete in the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 pm ET.
