Freshman Elisa Orduna Shackleton’s second round score of 68 tied for the third lowest round in program history and the Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s golf team placed seventh at the 30th Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky.
Shackleton began play on Friday with a first round score of 80. On Saturday, she shaved 12 shots off that total for a 4-under 68. She finished with a final round 76 on Sunday for a three-round total of 224. The Zaragoza, Spain native tied for 22nd overall.
Former Colonel Elsa Moberly owns the four lowest rounds in EKU history with a 65 and three rounds of 67. Shackleton joins five former players who shot rounds of 68 a total of nine times.
Eastern sandwiched rounds of 300 around a second round score of even-par 288. EKU’s total of 888 was 11 shots better than eighth place Memphis (897) and just two shots behind sixth place Tulane (886).
Kentucky captured the team title with a total of 859 (-5). Rutgers (874) was second and Penn State (874) was third. Western Kentucky (877) and Middle Tennessee (884) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
The Colonels finished in front of such teams as Akron, Murray State, Marshall and Cincinnati.
The 13-team event was contested at the par 72, 6,114-yard Big Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky.
Newcomer Vilma Efraimsson led Eastern Kentucky and placed 16th overall with a three-round total of 220. She fired back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 before concluding with a 4-over 76.
Bailey Hubbard (225) and Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir (225) tied for 29th overall.
The Colonels will return to action on Oct. 18-20 at the Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
