A frost delay halted play in the second round of Louisville’s Cardinal Cup on Saturday, but WKU’s Mary Joiner will be in the top 10 individually when play resumes Sunday.
The junior Joiner shot a 1-over 73 in the first round at the par-72, 6,303-yard UofL Golf Club and is 4 over with two holes to go in her second round, currently tying her for 10th. She’s fifth in the field in par-4 scoring.
Play is scheduled to continue in the second round at 10:15 a.m. CT Sunday, with the final round to immediately follow.
The Lady Toppers shot a 306 in the first round and will be in 10th place as a team when play resumes. Illinois leads the field, which features 10 teams in the Golfstat Top 100, including WKU.
Junior Bailey Tyree and freshman Lizzie Loy both shot 77s in the first round. Tyree is now tied for 31st in the second round, while Loy is tied for 56th.
Junior Abigail Smee and sophomore Megan Clarke opened with a 79 and 82, respectively.
Illinois’ Tristyn Nowlin leads the individual standings at 3 under.
