Eastern Kentucky University and Xavier University finished 36 holes of golf at the 2018 Colonel Classic tied at 19-over. Xavier shot two pars and two birdies in the playoff to take the team championship and EKU finished second.

Eastern followed Friday’s first round 299 with a second round 296 and finished with a total of 595. Xavier shot rounds of 300 and 295.

Western Kentucky’s Mary Joiner and Akron’s Danielle Nicholson finished tied for the individual title. Joiner birdied the playoff hole to take the trophy.

The course at the University Club at Arlington had a par of 72 and played to 5,815 yards.

Four Colonels finished among the top-10. Elsa Moberly placed fourth after shooting a final round 1-over 73 to finish with a 36-hole total of 147. Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir (149) and Mikayla Hauck (149) tied for fifth overall. Hannabeth Owens (150) tied for ninth.

Western Kentucky (596) finished third, just one shot behind Eastern and Xavier. Akron (597) was fourth and Oakland (607) rounded out the top five.

The field included three other Ohio Valley Conference teams. Austin Peay (617) tied for eighth. Belmont (621) was 10th and Tennessee Tech (632) placed 12th.

The participating teams were Akron, Austin Peay, Ball State, Belmont, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Louisiana-Monroe, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Ohio, Tennessee Tech, Toledo, Western Kentucky and Xavier.

The Colonels will play in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship April 16-18 at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. EKU has finished in the top-5 at the event each of the past five years and has won three titles during that time.
