Mid-South Conference officials announced Georgetown College is the favorite to win the 2017-18 regular season title, while the Campbellsville Tigers were picked to finish sixth.
The CU Tigers finished last season under first-year head coach Brent Vernon with a 15-15 record and were 4-10 inside MSC play. CU earned 16 voting points along with Cumberland University to be tied for sixth in the preseason poll.
Georgetown earned a total of 40 points and one of the eight first-place votes. Five different teams received at least one first-place vote.
Life University tallied three first-place votes and 39 voting points and is picked to finish second. Last season, the Running Eagles swept the conference regular season and tournament titles, en route to finishing as the national runner-up.
Lindsey Wilson College picked up one first-place vote and garnered 38 voting points. University of Pikeville finished right behind the Blue Raiders with 37 voting points and two first-place votes.
University of the Cumberlands earned the final first-place vote and 30 voting points, which slots them fifth.
Shawnee State rounded out the preseason poll and was selected to finish eighth with eight voting points.
Coaches’ were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
The 2018 Mid-South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship is slated for March 2-4 at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville, Ky.
