Alexa Pennington, a 6-foot-1 forward from Russellville, Ohio, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Eastern Kentucky University, head coach Chrissy Roberts announced today.

Pennington will join the team in the fall semester of the 2019-20 season as a freshman.

“Alexa is a very skilled stretch forward that has a great understanding of the game,” said Roberts.  “She is a very well rounded player that will be a great addition to our team.  Not only can Alexa score in a variety of ways, she rebounds and passes extremely well.  I’m excited to see what the future holds for her.”

Pennington was named all-conference and second team all-district as a junior in 2017-18.  She averaged 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game that season while helping lead Eastern Brown High School to a conference and sectional championship.

During her sophomore campaign, Pennington helped lead the team to an undefeated conference record.  The Warriors posted a 26-2 record while winning sectional, district, and regional championships.  She was named all-conference, third team all-district and Associated Press honorable mention all-state.  Pennington averaged 11 points with seven rebounds and two assists per game.  She had the top three-point shooting percentage on the team.

As a freshman Pennington averaged 11 points per game and was the team’s leading scorer.  She also contributed seven rebounds and two assists a game.  She was named all-conference and honorable mention all-district.

Pennington picked EKU over Detroit Mercy and Oakland University.

The Colonels will be back in action on Wednesday at Western Michigan University.  Tip-off in Kalamazoo is scheduled for 7 p.m.  The game will air live on ESPN+.
