Bellarmine remains the only NCAA Division II team to hold the No. 1 ranking in the 2018-19 season as both national polls released today have the Knights in the top spot.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches DII Rankings again have Bellarmine as the unanimous No. 1 selection, and the National Media Poll puts the Knights in the top spot with 11 of 15 first-place votes.

Bellarmine won its only game last week in impressive fashion, routing a solid Christian Brothers team by 35 points to improve to 7-0 on the season. The Knights have plenty of company in the undefeated ranks as 11 teams still have unblemished records this season, including the top five in both polls. Following Bellarmine in the top five (in both polls) are Northwest Missouri State, Indiana (Pa.), Saint Anselm, and Valdosta State.

The Barry Buccaneers–the Knights’ next opponent–improved four spots in the NABC rankings to No. 12 this week while Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Lewis holds down the No. 12 position in the National Media poll.

The Knights are idle this week during Bellarmine’s final exams and return to action next Tuesday and Wednesday by hosting the Bellarmine Classic. The event will open with a Tuesday 5 p.m. contest between Southern Indiana and Northern Michigan followed by the Bellarmine-Barry matchup. Wednesday’s doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. with Southern Indiana taking on Barry and the Knights close the Classic against Northern Michigan at 3 p.m. Heading into play this week, the four teams boast a combined record of 25-4.
