EKU MBB Goes On the Road To Face Morehead State On Monday

The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will travel to play at Morehead State on Monday. Tip from Johnson Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.

WHAT TO KNOW

It is the second time in a week the Colonels and Eagles will play each other. EKU (5-1) erased a 16-point halftime deficit to defeat Morehead State, 71-68, last Monday in Richmond.

Sophomore Michael Moreno poured in a career-high 29 points in the win over Morehead State a week ago.

Junior Cheikh Faye came off the bench and led the Colonels with a career-high 16 points in EKU’s 81-60 win over Transylvania on Saturday.

Five Colonels are currently averaging double figures in scoring: Tre King (15.5 points-per-game), Moreno (11.8 points-per-game), Jomaru Brown (11.8 points-per-game), Wendell Green Jr. (10.5 points-per-game) and Curt Lewis (10.0 points-per-game).

Sophomore Tariq Balogun swatted three shots versus Transylvania on Saturday and now ranks second in the OVC in blocks-per-game (1.8).

EKU forced Transylvania into 26 turnovers on Saturday. The Colonels rank 3rd in the country in steals-per-game (13.5), 5th in turnovers forced-per-game (23.0) and 5th in turnover margin (+10.3).

Brown’s 13 points on Saturday moved him past Glenn Cosey and Mike Smith to No. 29 on EKU’s all-time scoring list (1,082 points).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Morehead State (3-4) defeated Transylvania twice last week.

Freshman Johni Broome paces the Eagles at 11.7 points-per-game and 7.6 rebounds-per-game.

This is the 196th all-time meeting between EKU and Morehead State. The Colonels lead the series, 112-83, and have won three straight over the Eagles.
