One of college basketball’s premier players received a well deserved award this week. Julius Randle, University of Kentucky forward and John Calipari’s go to guy grabbed the SEC Player of the Year, named by the SEC coaches on Tuesday. Randle is the fifth consecutive Wildcat to earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors. He joins DeMarcus Cousins, Terrence Jones, Anthony Davis and Nerlens Noel as the other winners. UK’s Patrick Patterson was the first Wildcat to win the award in 2008.
The Texas native lead the Wildcats in points (15.4) and rebounds (10.5) making him the last Wildcat to do so since Anthony Davis. Not only does Randle lead the team in points and rebounds Randle has also become the floor leader for the Cats and doing so by setting examples on the court.
Randle will most like declare for the NBA after the 2013-14 season and that’s sure to make other SEC coaches happy and UK fans sad to see such a highly talented and likeable young man leave Lexington. Whatever Randle chooses to do the BBN and the rest of the conference should be happy for the talented big man from Dallas, Texas.
