Bellarmine WBB stays at No. 4 in WBCA rankings

A narrow loss to No. 1 Ashland didn’t do anything to upset the Bellarmine University women’s basketball team’s standing in the latest WBCA rankings.

Bellarmine (10-1) maintained its position at No. 4 after being edged 88-83 Friday by top-ranked Ashland (14-0), which had beaten all 13 of its previous opponents by a minimum of 14 points. The Knights were within three points of the Eagles with less than two minutes remaining.

While Ashland and Bellarmine stayed put, there was a lot of movement otherwise in the top 8. No. 2 Emporia State and No. 3 Virginia Union moved up from Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, suggesting the Knights likely would have risen to No. 1 had they clipped the Eagles.

No. 5 Angelo State ascended from No. 7, as did No. 7 Alaska-Anchorage from No. 8. No. 6 Pittsburg State and No. 8 California (PA) dropped from Nos. 3 and 2, respectively.

Drury (No. 12) and Lewis (No. 16) joined Bellarmine from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
