Fern Creek Wins LIT In Overtime Fashion

Louisville,KY-The 2016 Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament uturned out to be one of the best in recent history. The #1 seed Fern Creek (17-2) defeated #2 seed Trinity (18-2) 65-58 in overtime.

The championship matchup made it the third time both teams had crossed paths this season. The Tigers have given Trinity their only other loss earlier this season at Fern Creek while Trinity got revenge by defeating the Tigers on their path to the King Of The Bluegrass title.

Although being outrebounded the Tigers used a balanced offensive attack and knocking down free throws in overtime was enough to beat the Rocks. Three Tigers ended up in double figures scoring and was led by Anthony Wales who had a game high 16 points. The Tiger’s bench came up big and combined for 29 points led by AJ Thomas’ 10 points and 9 by Clint Wickliffe.

The difference in the game was Trinity’s poor shooting, FG (34.7%) and from distance (25%) which carried into overtime where Trinity stayed ice cold from the field. The Rocks went 1/9 from the floor and 1/7 from 3 in the extra period allowing Fern Creek to pull away from the number 23 team in the nation and number 1 in the state.

Trinity was led by 2019 G David Johnson who scored 16 and 2018 G Jay Scrubb added 12 for the Rocks. Back from injury was senior point guard and preseason 7th region player of the year Jacob King who scored 8 for the Rocks.
