Size In Numbers: Peyton Gover

The game of basketball has changed in many ways and if you’re not 6 foot or taller chances are many D1 programs won’t give you a good look much else an offer. Of course you can’t reinvent the wheel and there’s exceptions to the rule like Tyler Ulis who has given smaller guards hope at playing at the next level.

Southwestern senior point guard Peyton Gover listed at 5’8″ is setting fire and holding his own against larger guards so far this season.

Through 12 games Gover is averaging 31.5 points per game, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and proving you can have size in numbers.

Then there’s an argument that he must be taking all the shots, has no help, or on a losing team. Wrong.

The “too small” guard has led Southwestern to a school record 12-0 start while shooting 56% from the field, 66% from 2pt FG, and 39% from 3 proving that size is measured by more than inches.

Gover is a pure point guard that is a floor general. He has an excellent game IQ, a tight handle, great vision, and a high motor on both ends of the floor.

On the recruiting front Gover has received interest from Transylvania, Asbury, Centre, Spring Hill, David, Cumberland & Lindsey Wilson. He has some Division 1 interest from Tennessee Tech, Lipscomp, and Farleigh Dickinson who recently reached out to the senior standout.

Wherever or whoever lands Gover will be getting a steal. He has proven that he can play bigger than the number listed in the program.

Below are some recent highlights of the Southwestern guard during AAU play with the Louisville Lightning.
