University of Louisville women’s basketball’s Asia Durr and Myisha Hines-Allen were named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Region I Team on Thursday.
The selection committee, which identified 52 Division I student-athletes, will select from that group its 10-member coaches All-America team. The 2017 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team will be announced during the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Dallas.
The selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
Durr earned all-ACC first team accolades and was named to the ACC all-Tournament first team. The sophomore is averaging 19.2 points and 3.4 rebounds, while accumulating team highs of 114 3-pointers and 45 steals. During Louisville’s NCAA Tournament second round win over Tennessee, she became the 28th member of the school’s 1,000-point club. Durr is the fifth player in program history to achieve the feat within their first two years at Louisville.
The Douglasville, Ga., native ranks third nationally in 3-pointers, eighth in 3-pointers per game (3.26), 16th in total points (671), and 29th in total field goals (227). Notably, in 12 games against Associated Press top-25 teams, she is producing 20.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.
Hines-Allen is producing 13.9 points and 9.3 rebounds, with 60 assists and 33 steals this season. She also earned all-ACC first team honors and secured ACC all-Tournament second team status. The junior tied the school’s single-season record with 17 double-doubles. She reached 1,000 career points earlier this season and has risen to ninth on the school’s all-time scoring list.
The Montclair, N.J., native ranks 11th nationally in double-doubles, 20th in rebounding (327), and 55th in field goals made (209). She is averaging 14.1 points on 50.7 percent shooting and 8.5 rebounds against AP top-25 teams this season.
No. 13 Louisville (29-7) returns to action on Friday, when it plays Baylor in the NCAA Oklahoma City Regional semifinal in Oklahoma City on ESPN2.
