Murray State University basketball 2017-18Murray State men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon announced the signing of Devin Gilmore from Madison, Mississippi.

Gilmore, a 6-6 forward from Madison-Ridgeland Academy, will be a freshman in the 2017-18 season with the Racers.

“Devin will bring length and elite athleticism to our group of forwards,” McMahon said. “He comes from a winning program and had an outstanding high school career at MRA. We love his contagious energy and attitude and can’t wait to coach him at Murray State.”

Playing in Mississippi’s Independent School Class 4A division, Gilmore helped the Patriots to a third state title in four seasons when Ridgeland went 33-9 in the state’s largest class. In four seasons at Ridgeland, Gilmore helped his team to 135 victories and three state championships. He scored 29 points and had 13 rebounds in his latest state championship game in March against Hartfield Academy in a 73-42 win.

As a senior in the 2016-17 season, Gilmore scored 18.6 points per game and grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game. He finished his four-year career at Ridgeland eclipsing the 2,000-point mark. He was named the Mississippi Independent Schools State Class 4A D-I Player of the Year as a junior and senior. He was also a two-time Clarion Ledger 3rd Team All-State selection.Murray State Basketball 2017-18

“Devin came to us in the ninth grade and he was a varsity player from the start and we won the state title that first year with him,” Coach Richard Duease said. “Devin played inside for us, but as a senior we played him at the three and he just took off. His upside is tremendous. He’s very coachable and I think Murray State is getting a great player. He’s going to be very happy there and Murray is going to be happy with him. He said when he got to Murray on his visit, he just knew that was the right place.”
