JacQuess Hobbs, a 6-2 guard out of Waggener High School in Louisville, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Eastern Kentucky University, head coach Dan McHale announced on Tuesday.
“JacQuess is a dynamic playmaker who will fit will in our up-tempo system,” McHale said. “He is a great on-ball defender and he plays with a tenacity that will strengthen our backcourt. JacQuess has been well-coached for four years by Coach Bryan O’Neill, and he has enjoyed a successful career playing against the best competition in the state.”
Hobbs was named first team All-7th Region by the Courier-Journal after averaging 15.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.5 steals-per-game as a senior.
Hobbs guided Waggener High to a 19-12 record and a 27th District runner-up finish in 2016-17. He garnered both 27th District and 7th Region All-Tournament team honors.
For his high school career, Hobbs tallied 886 points, 187 assists, 250 rebounds and 146 steals.
“JacQuess is another Kentucky product who has chosen to call Richmond his home, and we are more than excited that he has joined our Colonel Culture,” McHale added.
Hobbs is the fourth player to sign with the Colonels since November, joining incoming freshmen Dedric Boyd (Brownsville, Tennessee), Peyton Broughton (London, Kentucky) and A.J. Youngman (Peoria, Illinois) in the 2017 signing class.
