Kentucky State University women’s basketball announced the signing of guard Sierra James to its 2017 recruiting class on Friday.

“Sierra (James) is a brilliant and versatile player, said head coach Terrance Slater. “She plays multiple positions on both sides of the ball which I think will translate nicely into our system. We are excited to have her in our program.”

James a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan played the last two season at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She helped lead the Cougars to a 29-5 record, including a 17-1 record in conference play. James started all 34 games as a sophomore averaging nine points while recording team-highs in rebounds at seven and assists with six per game.

Because of her steady play, she was named to the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) second team and finished second in all of the NJCAA with 205 total assists.

Classes will begin for James and the eight other new comers to the women’s basketball program on Aug. 22. She’ll have two years of eligibility with the Thorobrettes.
