A challenging eight-game nonconference slate leads the way for Kentucky State University men’s basketball with the unveiling of the 2017-18 schedule on Friday morning.
The season will begin with three consecutive road contest starting on Nov. 11 at Salem International University. A repeated game from the 2016-17 season will follow, as KSU heads to the University of Indianapolis on Nov. 15. Finally, the Thorobreds will wrap-up the road trip on Nov. 16 when they visit NCAA Division I and Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Kentucky University at Alumni Coliseum.
The first home game of the season will feature KSU pitted against Malone University on Saturday, Nov. 18 as a part of doubleheader action with KSU women’s basketball. The day will begin at 3 pm ET with the Thorobrettes hosting the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The men’s game will follow with tip set for 5 pm ET.
A quick turnaround on Nov. 21 and 22 will have KSU traveling up to Ashland, Ohio, facing Tiffin University and Ashland University on back-to-back days.
Late November into early December will showcase a two and half week stretch of six straight home games for the Thorobreds as they’ll begin SIAC play against Fort Valley State University on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 3 pm ET. An anticipated battle with Lane College will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Exum Center at 3 pm ET. Games with Albany State University and LeMoyne-Owen College will be sandwiched between on Nov. 27 and 30.
Home contests against SIU on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 pm ET and the University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday, Dec. 9 will wrap up the six-game homestead, while also putting an end to the non-conference schedule with 15 games remaining.
A trip south to Atlanta, Georgia restarts conference play with games against Morehouse College on Dec. 16 and the defending SIAC tournament champions, the Clark Atlanta University Panthers on Dec. 18. During the 2016-17 campaign, KSU took both games against the Atlanta based institutions; it was the first time in over decade the Thorobreds swept the road trip in Atlanta.
As the calendar flips from 2017 to 2018, KSU will be back in the Capitol City for matchups with Benedict College on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 3 pm ET and Claflin University on Monday, Jan. 1 at 7:30 pm ET.
Mid-February will feature back-to-back home and home matchups with rival Central State University. KSU will first travel to Wilberforce, Ohio on Feb. 8 for a 7:30 pm ET matchup, and CSU will return the favor on Saturday, Feb. 10 as the squad’s faceoff at 6:30 pm ET inside the Exum Center. The two rivals split their season series a year ago, the last time the Thorobreds took both games of the series in a single season was back in the 2015-16 season, with the Marauders taking two wins in one season back in 2013-14.
Senior Day will be held on Feb.10 with four seniors being honored before tipoff.
The SIAC postseason tournament is set for Feb 26 to Mar. 3 in Birmingham, Alabama.
