The Campbellsville women’s basketball team is set to begin the 2017-18 season ranked sixth in the nation after the NAIA announced its Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll on Tuesday afternoon.

 

The Lady Tigers ended last season in the NAIA National Championship Semifinals and capped of the year with a record of 28-7 overall. Campbellsville picked up a total of 186 total points and is the second highest Mid-South Conference team in the national poll.

 

Shawnee State University is just ahead of the Lady Tigers in the poll and is ranked fifth after earning 196 points. The Bears won the conference tournament title and a share of the regular-season title last season. Shawnee State also earned one first-place vote.

 

Lindsey Wilson College enters the preseason poll at No. 8 overall after grabbing 170 voting points. The Blue Raiders shared the conference regular-season title last season and finished as runner-up in the conference tournament.

 

Cumberland University is the final Mid-South team ranked inside the top 25 with 77 points, which is 22nd overall in the rating. The Phoenix finished the 2016-17 season with a 15-12 mark.

 

University of Pikeville is the first team outside of the top 25, but still receiving votes. The Bears earned 46 points, which is two points behind Talladega College for 25th overall. Last season, Pikeville compiled a record of 21-11.

 

Defending national champion Oklahoma City University is ranked atop the poll with eight of the nine first-place votes and 219 points. Lewis-Clark State College is second in the rating with 207 points, followed by Freed-Hardeman University with 204 points.

 

Vanguard University is the final team in the top five with 200 points and is ranked fourth in the nation.

 

Campbellsville begins its 2017-18 regular season on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. ET against Blue Mountain College at the MSC-SSAC Challenge in McKenzie, Tennessee.

 

The first regular-season ranking is going to be released on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
