Chris Wells, a 2018 Eastern Kentucky University graduate, has joined the EKUSports Communications office as assistant director, EKU Assistant Athletics Director for Communications and Branding Kevin Britton announced today.
Wells will assist in the media relations and public relations efforts of EKU athletics. He will serve as the primary media contact for volleyball, beach volleyball, softball and men’s golf.
“I’m excited and honored to join the EKUSports Communications staff in my new role,” said Wells. “EKU is home to me and I look forward to sharing the stories of its student-athletes.”
The Richmond, Kentucky native has spent the past two and a half years working in the EKUSports Communications office. He served first as a student assistant and then as the EKUSports Communications intern since January 2018. During that time, he has aided the department by writing press releases, designing game programs, managing multiple social media platforms, taking photos, game operations and serving as the official statistician for soccer, golf, volleyball and baseball.
“I am very pleased to add Chris to our staff in a full time role,” Britton said. “Chris has built outstanding relationships throughout the athletics department. He has been a valuable asset to our mission and has proven himself capable of excelling in this new role. Chris has a very bright future in college athletics.”
The former Madison Central High School baseball player returned as an assistant coach for the Indians during the 2016 season. Wells was a member of EKU’s club baseball team while pursuing his degree.
Wells received a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Eastern Kentucky in May 2018.
