Murray State Assistant Women’s Soccer coach, Ryan Jones, has been named Assistant for the Men’s Master’s Over 35 team that will represent the United States in this years Pan American Maccabi Games. The Games will take place July 5-15 in Mexico City, Mexico.
Jones just completed his first year as assistant with the Racers under head coach Matt Lodge. During their first season as a coaching duo, they helped the team to a 13-5-1 overall record, an OVC tournament Championship, and an NCAA tournament appearance. Prior to returning for his second season with the Racers, Ryan will look to help lead the Men’s Master’s Over 35 team to Gold in Mexico City.
Jones represented the USA two times before on the field with the Open Men’s Soccer team in both the 19th and 20th Maccabiah Games in 2013 and then 2017. “I am thrilled to join a longtime friend Scott Rowling (as head coach) and Maccabi USA in these Games!” Jones helped the USA team in 2013 to its first ever gold medal in Soccer alongside Rowling. 4 years later, Jones returned to the Open Men’s squad in 2017 to help defend the gold in another emphatic run in Israel, leading to an unprecedented back-to-back Gold Medals. “It was truly special winning the Maccabiah Games in 2013, along with the many friendships developed from those games; but to be able to return in 2017 with a new team is something I’ll cherish for a lifetime!”
“The Pan American Maccabi Games are a celebration of Jewish unity, culture, and heritage through athletic competition and I am so honored to be a part of Team USA, now as a Coach! I am excited to not only represent the United States, but also to connect with coaches and players from around the world to learn and make myself a better coach”
After completion of the Games, Jones will return to Murray to help Coach Lodge and the Racers in their 2019 campaign.
