Thomas More MBB Team Push Past RV Freed-Hardeman, 85-71 in Mid-South Match Up

Thomas More men’s basketball team traveled to Henderson, Tennessee on Thursday night to take on RV Freed-Hardeman in a Mid-South conference game. The Saints push past the Lions with a 85-71 win, moving their overall record to 7-3 and 5-3 in conference. 

  • Senior Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) started things off for the Saints scoring a field goal to put them ahead 2-0 with 19:02 on the clock. 
  • Sophomore Reid Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) scored a field goal to help put the Saints ahead 39-38, after trailing most of the half.  
  • The Lions went on a 0-5 run at the end of the first half. Jolly took advantage and secured the lead making a field goal at the end of the first half, to put the saints ahead 41-38. 
  • Jolly led the Saints in points with 19, was tied with Redshirt junior Ryan Batte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) in rebounds with three, and had one assist. 
  • Batte and Bertsch followed behind with nine points.  
  • Junior Logan Swackhammer (Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto) had five points, one rebound, and one assist. 
  • The Saints were 58.62% (17-29) from the field and 50% (5-10) from the three-point line.  
  • Thomas More was 100% (4-4) from the free-throw line.  
  • Jolly started things off for the Saints making a field goal to start the second half off. This furthered their lead to 43-38 with 19:44 on the clock. 
  • Senior Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) went on a roll making 5-8 three-point shots in the beginning of the second half. He led the second half for the Saints in points with 17. 
  • Jolly followed with 13 points and Batte had seven points in the second half. 
  • The Saints were 59.6% (16/27) from the field and 57.1% (8/14) from the three-point line in the second half. 
  • Jolly lead the Saints in points with 32 and rebounds with 6, he also tied for assists with four. 
  • Rudy followed behind with 20 points, three assists, and four rebounds.  
  • Batte put up 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists. 
  • Bertsch had 13 points, three assists, and one rebound.  
  • Sophomore Noah Pack (Georgetown, Ohio/Georgetown) was tied for leading the team in rebounds with four and he had two blocks. 

The Saints return to the court Saturday January 16to McKenzie, Tennessee to take on Bethel University at 4:00 pm Central/5:00 pm Eastern.
