The eighth-ranked Thomas More University women’s basketball team remained undefeated as it defeated the University of Pikeville, 67-51, in a Mid-South Conference game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
FIRST HALF:
- Both teams got off to a slow start as the Saints led 9-6 after the first quarter.
- Thomas out-scored Pikeville 21-19 to extend the lead to 30-25 at halftime.
- Sophomore guards Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) and Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) led the Saints in the first half as they each scored seven points.
- Junior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) added six points.
SECOND HALF:
- Thomas More had a 21-16 scoring advantage in the third quarter increase the lead to 51-38 after three quarters.
- The Saints went onto post the 67-51 victory.
- Sophomore guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) scored eight points and pulled down four rebounds in the second half.
- Hurst and Barth each added nine points in the second half.
NOTABLES:
- Thomas More improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Mid-South.
- Pikeville falls to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-South.
- The Saints shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the field.
- Thomas More outrebounded the Bears 40-31.
- Secrist recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
- Hurst and Barth led all scorers as they each had 16 points.
- Clos finished with nine points, six rebounds and two assists.
- Sophomore guard Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) Pulled down six rebounds.
UP NEXT:
- The Saints return to the hardwood on Saturday (January 2) when they travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky to play the University of the Cumberlands at 1:30 p.m.
