Louisville MTEN Sweeps No. 24 Northwestern 4-0

The University of Louisville men’s tennis team secured a sweeping victory over No. 24 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals, with a record of 3-0, defeated the Wildcats 4-0. The team will be back in action later in the day, taking on Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. in the second half of the doubleheader.

The Cardinals got off to a strong start in the match, securing a pair of doubles victories to go up 1-0 over the Wildcats (3-1). David Mizrahi and Matthew Fung picked up a 6-1 victory on court two against Steven Forman and Gleb Blekher. The No. 9 ranked duo of Natan Rodrigues and Fabien Salle defeated the Wildcats’ Simen Bratholm and Ivan Yatsuk 6-3 to secure the first point of the match.

In singles play, Mizrahi continued his winning streak, securing the first singles win for the Cardinals by defeating Blekher 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot. On court five, Sergio Hernandez dominated Presley Thieneman in set one 6-0, before mounting an impressive comeback in set two winning 7-5 after trailing 5-2 early on.

No. 42 Etienne Donnet sealed the deal for Louisville at the No. 3 spot as he defeated Simen Bratholm 6-3 in both the first and second sets to complete the win. With this victory, the Cardinals extended their winning streak to three games, showing a dominant performance against a ranked opponent.
