UofL Women’s Swimming Open ACC Championships on Wednesday

The No. 14 University of Louisville women’s swimming and diving team is set to begin the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday, February 14 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Competition kicks off on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. ET with the women’s 1-meter prelim, while swimming action is slated to begin at 4:15 p.m. ET and will continue through Saturday, February 17.

In addition to the women’s swimming and diving championships, men’s diving will also take place. The scores from the men’s competition will be added to the ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, which will take place February 21-24.

At last year’s ACC Championships, the Cardinals placed third overall, their highest finish since joining the conference in 2015. They return ACC champion Mallory Comerford, who won both the 100 and 200 free last year in Atlanta before going on to capture the NCAA title in the 200 free.

The No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers were the top-ranked ACC squad in the latest TYR / CSCAA poll, while defending ACC champion NC State is second with the No. 10 ranking. The Cards are the third-ranked ACC team at No. 14, followed by No. 18 North Carolina, No. 19 Notre Dame, and No. 25 Duke.

The Cardinals will look for their best ACC Championship finish yet, as they have nine performances that rank among the top-10 in the NCAA. Comerford owns the nation-leading times in the 100 (46.70) and 200 free (1:41.17), and ranks fourth in the 100 fly (50.92), fifth in the 500 free (4:35.78), and sixth in the 50 free (21.87). Casey Fanz (10th in the 50 free), Sophie Cattermole (eighth in the 1650) and Grace Oglesby (seventh in both the 100 and 200 fly) join Comerford among the nation’s fastest. The Cards also have top ten times in all five relays, including the second-ranked time in the 800 free relay and third-ranked time in the 200 free relay.

With the exception of Wednesday, prelims will begin at 10 a.m. ET each morning, followed by finals at 6 p.m. ET. A live video stream of finals will be available on ACC Network Extra and WatchESPN on Thursday through Saturday at 6 p.m.
