Charlelie Cosnet, a freshman on the University of Kentucky men’s tennis team, has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. This is the first time that Cosnet has received this honor, and it comes after his impressive performance at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Cosnet helped the Wildcats reach the final four of the competition by going 2-1.

Currently ranked No. 102 in the latest ITA singles rankings, Cosnet defeated Florida’s Lukas Grief and USC’s Ryan Colby over the weekend. Although he lost a tight three-set match to TCU’s Tomas Jirousek, his overall performance earned him the SEC Freshman of the Week title.

In Kentucky’s opening round match against Florida, Cosnet clinched the winning point for the Wildcats. His victory over USC’s Colby, ranked No. 82 nationally, was his first against a nationally ranked opponent this spring. Cosnet has a 6-2 singles record in dual matches overall and is 1-0 in doubles play.

Cosnet’s success has been critical for the Wildcats this season, as they look to make a run in SEC play. The team’s opening SEC match is set for Thursday, March 2, against South Carolina at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. Cosnet’s performances have been instrumental in leading the team to a strong start, and his recognition as the SEC Freshman of the Week is well-deserved.

As a freshman, Cosnet has already made a significant impact on the team, and his success is a testament to his hard work and dedication. His performance at the ITA National Indoor Championships shows that he has the potential to be one of the top players in college tennis. With his passion for the sport and his talent on the court, the future looks bright for both Cosnet and the Wildcats.

The entire Kentucky tennis community is proud of Cosnet’s accomplishments and looks forward to seeing him continue to excel on the court. His recognition as the SEC Freshman of the Week is just the beginning of what is sure to be a successful college career. Congratulations to Charlelie Cosnet on his achievement, and best of luck to him and the Wildcats as they move forward in SEC play.
