Senior John Murphy shot even-par as the University of Louisville men’s golf team slipped to fourth place after two rounds of the V1 Sports General Hackler Championship on Monday at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
After shooting 13-under-par to take a two-shot lead after the opening round, the Cardinals shot a 10-over 298 to move into fourth place at 3-under-par after the first two rounds of action.
NC State is the leader 19-under-par, while North Florida is in second at 9-under and North Carolina is third at 6-under.
Closing Sunday’s round in a tie for the lead, Murphy carded a 72 Tuesday to move into third place at 6-under par after 36 holes. He enters third-round action just four shots behind NC State’s Max Steinlechner who is the leader at 10-under.
Murphy was up-and-down all afternoon, shooting a 36 on each side. He registered three birdies and an eagle on the par 5 No. 8 during his round.
Trevor Johnson posted the second-best round of the day for the Cardinals, firing a 1-over-par 73 to end the second round in a tie for 17th. He birdied two of the first four holes to shoot even-par on the front nine, but a double bogey on No. 18 put him one stroke over par for the day.
Jiri Zuska dropped into a tie for 24th after shooting a 77 on Monday, while Matthias Schmid also fell to 30th after his round of 76.
Devin Morley closed the scoring for the Cardinals with a 78 to end his round in a tie for 57th.
