Louisville Ladybird Coach Sheryl Knight Honored with Community Arts Champion Award

The University of Louisville Ladybird Coach Sheryl Knight has been announced as the recipient of this year’s Community Arts Champion Award by Louisville Visual Arts (LVA). The award ceremony will take place at the LVA Gallery on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 5:30 pm during a special banquet in Knight’s honor.

Sheryl Knight boasts an impressive resume, serving as the Head Coach of the 20-time National Champion University of Louisville Ladybird Dance Team for over two decades. As a professional choreographer, Knight has choreographed over 80 national championship and world championship routines. Her exceptional skills have led her to coach dance teams on all levels, from junior high through college. Furthermore, her choreography has been instrumental in securing championships for teams at the Junior High, High School, College, and Studio All-Star levels.

In addition to her work with the Ladybirds, Knight currently coaches the Louisville Male High School Dance Team. She also travels the country, teaching master classes and training in various dance styles, continuously expanding her knowledge and expertise in the field.

The LVA Honors event, now in its sixth year, aims to celebrate and strengthen the connections between different generations of artists, educators, and art enthusiasts. By recognizing the contributions of both educators and patrons alongside artists, the LVA Honors acknowledges the importance of every aspect of visual culture, emphasizing the role each plays in promoting art and enhancing the quality of visual experiences in the city of Louisville.

As this year’s Community Arts Champion Award winner, Sheryl Knight is celebrated for her dedication to nurturing talent and fostering a love for the arts among her students and the broader community. Her accomplishments not only highlight her exceptional skills as a coach and choreographer but also serve as an inspiration for future generations of dancers and artists.
