The Murray State track and field team returned to action Friday, competing at the Austin Peay Invitational.
“Today was a good day for those who competed,” said head coach Adam Kiesler. “We had numerous athletes hit marks that will allow them to get into more meets in the future. The highlight of the day was Brooke [Misukonis] setting a new school record in the pole vault. This is the time of year when we love to see times drop and distances increase and these kids set the tone for the rest of the year. It will be fun to watch when we get to OVC in May.”
As Coach Kiesler pointed out, Brooke Misukonis had the performance of the day, breaking the Murray State record in the pole vault with a mark of 1.70m (12′ 1 ½”).
Christina Meinhardt also had a nice showing with a second-place finish in the discus at a mark of 37.58m. Hannah Johnson was not too far behind in third with a personal-best toss of 37.56m.
Johnson also broke a personal record in the javelin by nearly 10 meters with a distance of 32.03m.
Not to be outdone, Destiny Carey also set a personal-best Friday with a hammer throw of 45.52m.
In other field events, Alison Woerner finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.20m and Sydney Houseal broke two personal records with a 10.10m shot put and 33.09m discus throw.
On the track, Hilary McAdam finished fifth in the 1500m, running a personal-best time of 4:52.91. In the same event, Dani Wright ran a personal-best time of 4:55.42 to finish seventh and Katelyn Gilbert set a PR with a time of 4:58.35 to finish 10th. Gilbert also broke a personal record in the 800m with a time of 2:25.76.
Dontavia Howard had two top-ten finishes, setting personal-bests in both the 100m (12.56) and the 100m hurdles (14.80)
